Talking about the Future

Sam has just returned home from school. He is telling his mum about his science topic, and his visions for the future…

Sam: Hi mum!

Mum: Hi Sam. How was your day?

Sam: It was quite interesting, actually. In science, we learned about robots and machines and we talked about what they might be able to do in the future!

Mum: That’s a very interesting topic. What do you think they’ll able to do in the future?

Sam: Well, I think that everyone will have a robot to clean the house!

Mum: That would be a dream! And what about the cooking?

Sam: Well, I think that there won’t be any cooking in the future. I think scientists will be able to create meal replacement pills which will have the same taste as any meal of our choice! This would help to solve problems such as food shortages and global warming.

Mum: Mm… I’m not sure I’d like that though... I really enjoy cooking! What else do you think might happen?

Sam: Well, I think we’ll have eco-friendly, self-driving cars too. They’ll be able to communicate with traffic lights and they won’t produce any toxic fumes. This will reduce global warming too.

Mum: Well, that sounds promising! I’d love to have a self-driving car…

Sam: Yes, me too. And I’d say we’ll have them sooner rather than later!
