Discussing Future Careers

Sam and Amy are in their final year of secondary school. They are discussing their career

plans…

Sam: Hi, Amy! I can’t believe this is our last year of school! Have you thought about your

future career?

Amy: Yes, I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. I’m planning to go to the University of

York to study business management.

Sam: Sounds ambitious! I can see you running your own business some day!

Amy: Really? Well, that’s my goal. I’ve always been interested in business and I’m good at

managing my finances too. In the future, I want to be financially well-off rather than just

living from hand to mouth.

Sam: Me too – who wouldn’t? Well, I believe you’ll achieve your goals because I know how

determined and hard-working you are.

Amy: Thanks for the encouragement! Have you thought about your future career?

Sam: Well, I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but I haven’t decided yet… I’m thinking

about taking a gap year to help me figure out what I want to do.

Amy: Or you could see the careers advisor to explore different options? By the end of this

year, you should have a clearer idea of what you want to do…

Sam: Yes - I’ll do that and if I still can’t decide, then I’ll take a gap year.

Amy: Well good luck and keep me posted!

Sam: I will. Good luck to you too!
