Talking about TV Programmes
Madeline and Max are discussing their favourite TV programmes at the minute…
Madeline: Max, I’ve found the best tv series ever and I’ve been binge-watching it all week!
I’ve watched three seasons already and there are still two to go.
Max: Three seasons in a week? That’s crazy! It must be really addictive! What’s it called?
Madeline: The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s an American drama series about a dystopian society
where women are forced to become concubines or ‘handmaidens’ by a terrible dictator. It’s
based on a novel by Margaret Atwood.
Max: What are concubines or handmaidens?
Madeline: They are women who are shipped off to wealthy houses, where they become
slaves. Watch the series and you’ll find out!
Max: I think I will… I’m watching a great series at the minute too.
Madeline: What is it?
Max: It’s called ‘The Vampire Diaries’.
Madeline: I’ve heard of it, but I’m not really into supernatural fiction…
Max: Actually, I think you would really like it… it’s more like a romance drama series and it
has teenage actors… who are vampires!
Madeline: OK - I’ll give it a go when I finish this series…
