Where Do You See Yourself in Ten Years?

Jake and Laura are friends at school. They have been set a task by the teacher to discuss the

following question in pairs: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Jake: So, Laura, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Laura: Mm… in 10 years, I’ll sitting in my mansion in Beverly Hills with a private butler

and the designer wardrobe I’ve always dreamed of!

Jake: Sounds great… but how do you plan on getting there? How are you going to afford to

live a life of luxury?

Laura: I’m going to marry a rich man and he’ll pay for everything! Oh, I’m only joking! I’ll

never be happy until I find a job I love and have a family. So, in 10 years, I see myself

working as a nurse… with three children and I think I’ll move abroad… maybe to Australia

because the employment opportunities are better there. What about you? Where do you see

yourself in 10 years?

Jake: In 10 years, my goal is to become the CEO of a law firm. I think I’ll stay here in

England because I like being close to my family.

Laura: That’s ambitious! What about having a family of your own?

Jake: I don’t think I’ll have a family – I don’t like the idea of being sleep-deprived and it’s

very hard to travel with them. I can see myself travelling all over the world in the next 10

years!

Laura: A lot can change in 10 years! It’ll be very interesting to see how things pan out…
