Talking about Global Warming

Mrs. Kinley is a Geography teacher. She is teaching a lesson about global warming. She is talking to one of the students, Simon, about what he thinks will happen…

Mrs. Kinley: Why do think scientists are so worried about global warming? Do you have any ideas, Simon?

Simon: Well, I think the biggest problem is that sea levels are rising. This will cause a lot of problems in the future. A lot of low-lying areas will flood and eventually disappear.

Mrs. Kinley: And what will happen when they disappear?

Simon: Many people and animals will lose their homes or even die. Some animals will become extinct too.

Mrs. Kinley: You’re absolutely right…What else will happen?

Simon: When the sea becomes warmer, the weather patterns will change. Many areas will have no rain for long periods.

Mrs. Kinley: And what will this lead to?

Simon: This will cause droughts and the crops will fail which means that people and animals won’t have anything to eat!

Mrs. Kinley: Correct. What can we do to stop this happening?

Simon: We can all do simple things to reduce global warming. For example, can turn off lights and appliances when we’re not using them. We can walk or cycle to school to reduce air pollution. Together, we can save our planet!
